Isle-of-Barra

London E3 5QZ to The Isle of Barra HS9 5XW

29th April 2008

The parcel is being sent from my studio to the Isle of Barra Hotel in the Hebridies. I have visited the hotel on Barra and loved it’s dramatic sea side setting, the hotel is nestled very close to the waters edge with fabulous views from the lounge & dining room -an amazing place to sit out a storm. Barra is one of the furthest extremities of the Royal Mail postal network and the parcel’s journey will includes multiple flights, a long ferry crossing and travel by large assortment of vans and lorries.

Setup & Checking

Having previously tested the Post Box the work needs to be setup for the new journey. The Ocellus and it’s backup power pack need to be placed on charge for at least 12 hours prior to dispatch. All of the 30 batteries need to be replaced, they are all connected up in battery packs taped together and secured into position. Each connection needs to be checked and the circuit tested. The cameras need to be tested and their view checked - they look through a small hole in the cardboard about 2mm x 3mm [to appear normal the holes are in the middle where the end flaps have been folded down and don’t quite meet] - if they are not correctly lined up parts of the image will be lost. The cameras and the Edirol R-09 audio recorder need to have their cards formatted so they are totally empty. The R-09 settings need to be checked to make sure energy conservation is at maximum and the time and date are correct.
