Driving Efficiency
Most notably, North East Lincolnshire Council has used Foretrack to actively increase efficiency. From using the system to map the street cleaning, to deploying vehicles to help with the refuse collection, Foretrack has enabled the Council to use its resources more effectively and efficiently.
Chris says: “We were able to identify very quickly where there was duplication, for example, where street cleaning vehicles were overlapping, we were able to change their routes to ensure better coverage and less duplication, saving time, resource and ultimately money.
Chris continues: “Another example is that traditionally, when refuse collection vehicles had finished their rounds, the driver would call in to see who else needed help. We would then call around to identify which rounds required assistance. This not only took time, it meant that the drivers were making and receiving phone calls, which interrupted their rounds. Foretrack enables us to immediately see where our drivers are on their round, so we can automatically direct any who have finished their rounds to help those who have not.”
Reporting – Key to Reducing Costs
Foretrack’s reporting functionality gives Chris the tools he needs to run his fleet effectively. Gary explains: “By providing Chris with real, tangible data on the movements of his vehicles, he can look at operational costs and validate the overtime and working hour sheets of the drivers.
Foretrack’s reports have also already helped him to select the most fuel and resource efficient routes and Foretrack calculates the savings and reports on them. And because the Council has installed a system which encourages drivers to be more conscious and can actively report on their driving, the insurance premiums are reduced.”
For Chris Dunn and his team, implementing Foretrack has not only given them the tools to asses the efficiency of their fleet and address those areas which can be improved upon, Chris feels that as they are more accountable, with transparent reporting, they have stronger customer relationships, there is better communication within the work force and its management are provided with real-time, tangible data for cost analysis.
