Fitting the Fleet
Once Foretrack had been selected by Dawsetway, implementing the system took no time at all, as Phil comments: “The system was implemented almost immediately as there was very little to do other than have the vehicles fitted with the tracking devices. The software on the site is very easy to use and the ability to get changes made to the site is a tangible asset.”
Initially, there was some resistance from a few members of staff, but once it was explained that unlike before, when only a few of the vehicles had been fitted with a tracking device, the entire fleet would now be fitted as a security measure for insurance purposes, this tailed off.
Phil remarks: “Eventually the fact that the office know where all our drivers are has sunk in to everyone and now some people still forget they have one fitted, which has caused some amusement at head office. At the end of the day, they are company vehicles and if fitting a tracking device provides tangible benefits, then that has to benefit everyone.”
Tangible Benefits – The Bottom Line
Dawsetway successfully uses the Foretrack system to check the location of vehicles every day, the routes they take, the speeds they drive at and their usage at weekends. It has helped them to control and help the plumbers going to their jobs, the delivery drivers on their routes and cut down on all unauthorised use of company vehicles outside of office hours.
Phil explains how this has helped the company’s bottom line: "The system has helped us to reduce the mileage by vehicles out of office hours and therefore reduced our fuel bills by up to 25%, equating to more than £1,000 per week. It has also been used to bill those employees who have used the vehicles without prior authorisation.
“In addition,it has enabled us to locate the whereabouts of company employees who should be performing specificjobs at set destinations. Instead of work being cancelled, we have been able to make people aware of staff whereabouts, enabling us to carry out workand not have jobs cancelled. This alone has saved many thousands of pounds.
”And finally,it has helped with our insurance premiums because we can locate any of our vehicles at any time and provide evidence of the speeds and usage, through detailed reports. When one of our vehicles was stolen, we were actually aware of that fact at the office, before the driver himself! We could immediately locate the stolen vehicle, inform the police of its whereabouts and get it recovered.”
The tangible and management benefits that Foretrack has provided to Dawsetway, as well the ease of use and functionality, has already led Phil to recommended Foretrack to other people. He concludes: “I have found the system to be excellent in all areas and aspects. The staff are very helpful and efficient and the system has more than paid for itself in the benefits it brings to Dawsetway Ltd.”
